Dental Veneers Care & Maintenance

Las Vegas Dental Veneer Maintenance and CareDental veneers often involve special maintenance and care to keep them looking their best. There are numerous do’s and don’ts that are associated with having dental veneers.

At Preferred Family Dentistry, a patient with porcelain or composite veneers should avoid power polishing, pumice polishing, acidulated fluoride treatments and ultrasonic scalers.

These procedures can damage the aesthetics of the veneers and in some cases make the tooth more susceptible to recurrent decay. To maintain the luster of the veneers it is recommended the patient see our dentist or hygienist who specializes in veneers to polish the dental veneers and the critical bond area twice a year.

Dental Veneers Pros and Cons

Dr. Jafarifar recommends her Las Vegas patients to avoid frequent alcohol consumption, sharp impact to the tooth, use of abrasive toothpastes, and hard brushing and flossing of the area.

Large consumption of alcohol can dissolve the bonding or luting material, moderate consumption will generally not have a noticeable effect. It is also important to avoid alcohol-containing mouthwashes. Most regular toothpastes may be too abrasive for dental veneers; it is recommended to the patient to use toothpaste made for use with veneers.

Avoid sharp impact with hard objects. Do not bite nails, pens or grind teeth. Also when eating hard foods the patient should avoid chewing with the veneers, alternatively try to chew with the back teeth.
