One of the most important steps during your visit to Las Vegas Preferred Family Dentistry is taking x-rays. Although sometimes taking x-rays may not be pleasant especially for those of you that have a strong gag reflex, it is extremely important to have routine dental x-rays taken.
Dr. J can thoroughly examine the surfaces of the teeth that are visible with the naked eye but it is almost impossible to see between the teeth without x-rays. Dental x-rays allow us to see if there is any hidden decay between your teeth. The most common location for dental decay is between the teeth that is why it is so important to take dental x-rays to check these hard to see areas.
There are different types of x-rays.
- Periapical X-Rays : Shows the whole tooth from the top portion to the tip of the root. This is used to check for infections at the tip of the roots of teeth.
- Bitewing X-Rays: shows the top part of the tooth. This is used to locate decay between the teeth more accurately.
- Occlusal View X-Rays: used in children to see a general view of the dentition.
- Panoramic X-Rays: Shows the full view of the jaw with the teeth. This shows the location of the wisdom teeth, TMJ’s, all tissues and nerves, infections, any existing tumors or lesions in the jaw. To see details in the teeth and for a more accurate view of the teeth the periapical and bitewing x-rays are needed.
On your first visit to see Dr. Jafarifar a full mouth series of x-rays or a panogramic x-ray will be taken. We are equipped with the most advanced digital radiography system which is more comfortable and fast.
In only a few minutes your x-rays will be taken and ready for our Dentist to examine immediately. Eighteen individual x-rays will be taken which will basically cover all the dentition. If you are missing a few of your teeth you may not need to take the whole set of x-rays.
It is extremely important for Dr. J to see every single tooth in your mouth clearly to be able to do a complete examination. This is important for the doctor to finalize the treatment plan that meets your goals for your dentition.
After you have become a regular patient of Dr. Jafarifar, you will be seen every 6 months for a checkup. Depending on the amount of dental work that you have received in the past you may need to take follow up x-rays periodically.
Make sure to inform us if you are having any tooth related problems during your checkup appointments so that Dr. Jafarifar can check the area of concern. A full mouth x-ray will be needed every 3-5 years.
Please call us for an appointment to meet with Dr. Jafarifar at our Las Vegas office for an examination and x-rays. If you are visiting us for a second opinion you may bring any x-rays that you have taken in the past but keep in mind depending on the quality or date of those x-rays we may need to take our own x-rays as well to get a good view of your dentition.
