What Are Crowns?

A crown is a tooth-shaped dental prosthetic that's placed over the visible portion of your tooth. Using special cement, your crown is secured to your tooth for a comfortable fit and effectively replaces your tooth's enamel. A crucial component of our Las Vegas dental crowns is that they can be made to match the color of your natural teeth for a seamless smile.

What You Can Expect

During your first visit, we'll examine the affected tooth extensively using technology like x-rays. Our team will look at your tooth and ensure it's healthy enough to undergo treatment. If we determine that your tooth is requires pretreatment, we'll explain your options. We'll then adjust the shape of your tooth to make room for your dental crown.

Once we've reshaped your tooth, we'll apply a special paste or putty to create an impression of your tooth. Our staff will also take impressions of your surrounding teeth so that your restoration perfectly fits between your natural teeth. We'll then send the impressions to a local lab, which typically takes two weeks to create your restoration. While your restoration is being crafted, we'll provide you with a temporary crown. Finally, we'll call you to our office for a fitting once your restoration is ready. Additionally, we can work with a periodontist to place an implant-supported crown if you are missing a tooth.

3 Benefits of Crowns

Our team is here for you if you're undecided on whether a crown is the right restorative option for you. During your initial appointment, we'll sit down with you to outline the benefits you can expect to experience with a dental crown. Our staff is happy to answer any questions you may have, including what materials we use during treatment. Some benefits of crowns include:

  1. Relieving Discomfort: Dental decay and trauma can cause your tooth to feel increased sensitivity, especially during temperature change. A crown covers your tooth and provides a barrier from temperature changes while reducing sensitivity.
  2. Simplicity: Although getting a crown may seem extensive, it's famous for its minimally invasive nature. Our dentist will clean your enamel and remove any decayed or damaged portions before placing your restoration to improve your smile.
  3. Long-Lasting: Our Las Vegas crowns are durable and designed to handle years of wear and tear. With proper oral health, you can expect your crown to last over a decade before it needs to be replaced.

Crowns FAQs

It's normal to have questions about our Las Vegas dental crowns. That's why our staff is here to answer them and walk you step-by-step through what you can expect. Some frequently asked questions about crowns include:

Can you perform root canal therapy?

Yes. We can provide you with root canal therapy in our office so that you only have to visit one practice to prepare and place your crown.

We recommend treating your crown as you would your natural teeth. Brushing your tooth twice a day and flossing it once daily can help prevent dental complications and keep your crown performing its best.

During the placement of your crown, we'll numb your mouth to ensure that you feel as little discomfort as possible. If you continue to feel discomfort following treatment, we recommend over the counter pain medication.

Because of crown placement's nonsurgical and noninvasive nature, treatment requires minimal recovery time. Typically, there's a waiting period following the placement of your crown where we recommend not consuming food and not chewing on the side of your crown for 24 hours.
